On Thursday, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nimkong Lar, provided an update on the status of Covid 19 in Plateau.

Lar noted that Plateau State is ranked fifth in the list of states most affected by the pandemic, following Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory, Rivers, and Kaduna.

He went on to say that Plateau State has tested 91,963 people so far and that 305 people were tested yesterday, with 43 confirmed cases.

Lar said: “Cumulatively, Plateau has 9443 confirmed cases of Covid 19 while 53 are currently being managed with Covid 19.”

He added that 9852 people have been discharged.

Lar also disclosed that Plateau State is on the second phase of the Covid 19 vaccination and at the moment Plateau State has received 100,250 AstraZeneca and 50,004 Modena vaccines.

He said: “Since the beginning of vaccination in Plateau State, 221,502 citizens have been fully vaccinated and Plateau State is poised to vaccinate a total number of 2 million by the end of January 2022.”

He warned against refusal to be vaccinated and calls on citizens to reach out to primary health care centers in the Local Government Areas for the vaccines.

He called on citizens to make it a point of duty to get vaccinated as the vaccines are available and free and to also note that the new variant of Covid-19 doesn’t come with the usual signs of cough but only comes with pains that leads to death.
