Comrade Ismail Abdulazeez, Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Osun branch, has condemned the killing of a borehole drilling truck driver, Kabiru Babai, in Osogbo by an unidentified police officer.
This came as he decried the constant harassment and murders of residents by Nigerian police officers in the state.
Babai, a 33-year-old man, was shot dead by a notorious Police officer on Friday when he was repairing a company’s vehicle that had broken down along Ikirun/Osogbo route in Ota-Efun, Osogbo.
According to reports, the deceased had a pregnant wife and a four-year-old child. He was brutalized before being shot in the chest in Osogbo’s Ota-Efun neighborhood.
Comrade Ismail stated that the organization has visited the Police Public Relations Officer of Osun Command at the Police Headquarters in Osogbo and requested that the event be thoroughly investigated in order for justice to be served.
According to him, “it is saddening that Police still continue to operate unethically despite the challenges and outcome of last year EndARS.
“Should we now request for the ban of Nigeria Police entirely in our Nation? No, but Police have decided to remain, act unruly and instead to uphold and enforcing law, they are becoming offenders.
“Police have now become murderers and brutal more than the original criminals.”
The chairman, however, charged the State Commissioner of Police through the PRO to bring the culprit to book without any delay as its expected to serve as deterrent to other prospective murderers in the police system.
Ismail condoled with the family of the deceased and the entire well drilling association.
He further urged the government, particularly the Governor who is the Chief Security Officer of the State to further checkmate the operations of the security agencies in order for the State to sustain her high ranking position as the most peaceful State in Nigeria.
