Two men, Messrs, Ugwuiyi Nnamdi, 35 and Eleje Chinweokwu, 39 have been in Nigerian Correctional centre, for attempting to kidnap the oldest man, Elder Romanus Ugwu of Odinanso village, Idi Opi, Nsukka Local Government Area in Enugu state.
The suspects were remanded on a three count charge bordering on attempted kidnapping, felony and malicious damage of properties, offences punishable under the criminal code of the revised laws of Enugu State.
The charges read: “That you Ugwuiyi Nnamdi ‘m’, and Eleje Chinweokwu ‘m’ and others now at large on or/about the 3rd day of July, 2021 at Ordinanso Village ldi Opi Nsukka within Enugu Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit Felony to Wit; attempted kidnapping, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 495 (a) of the Criminal Code Cap 30 Vol. II Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004.
“That on the same date, time, period and place at the aforementioned magisterial District did attempt to kidnap one Romanus Ugwu the oldest man in the community, by invading his house at Ordinanso Village Opi Nsukka, with machetes, Irons and other offensive weapon and destroying thing and scaring the occupants away and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 75 of the Criminal Code Cap 30 Vol. II Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004.
“That you Ugwuiyi Nnamdi m, Eleje Chinweokwu ‘m and one other now at large on the same date, time, period and place at the aforementioned Magisterial District did maliciously damage doors, windows, chairs valued about N330,000.00, property of one, Romanus Ugwu and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 415(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 30 Vol. II Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004.”
Remanding the suspects, the presiding Magistrate, Ukpai L.O said that the matter was not in his jurisdiction to try, adding that it was a binding case.
He adjourned the case till January 21, 2022 pending the report of the Attorney General of the State on the matter.
