The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced that it has begun consultations with its branches around the nation in order to reach an agreement on the closure of public universities.
This comes after the Federal Government’s three-week deadline to satisfy its requests expired.
Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, National President of ASUU, bemoaned in an interview on Tuesday that the ultimatum expired on Sunday without the Federal Government making a single attempt to meet their requests.
The union president stated that they are prepared to take action as soon as the ongoing consultation with branches is completed within the next week.
He said, “We have referred it to the branches. They are to meet within the week and then reply back before we take a final decision.”
Speaking on their unresolved issues with the federal government, Osodeke said “we had raised about six items and we want the government to implement them.
“There are many issues we raised which the government has not addressed and until they do that, we are ready to take action.”
