Chelsea are in pole position to sign former Manchester United’s fastest player, Deji Sotona, Football Insider reports.
Chelsea are working on a deal ahead of the upcoming January window after failing to land Sotona in the summer.
Sotona is on the radar of the Blues for a second consecutive window due to his blistering speed and the cutting edge he can provide on the pitch of play.
The Irish attacker of Nigerian descent was recorded as the fastest player when he was on the books of Man United.
Sotona reached a speed of 22.9mph, which was 1.2mph quicker than Diogo Dalot, the second-fastest player at Man United at the time.
He quit Man United in October of 2020 to join French club OGC Nice after rejecting a new deal to extend his stay at Old.
Sotona’s future has been in doubt at Nice following the departure of Patrick Vieira as manager last December.
Viera, who is now in charge of Premier League side Crystal Palace, had been instrumental in persuading Sotana to leave Man United.
But things have turned sour for the 19-year-old forward since Vieira was sacked and he is now set to join Thomas Tuchel’s side.
