The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Plateau command has disclosed that it has deployed 1,500 personnel to ensure peaceful and crime-free Christmas and new year celebrations in the state.
This was contained in a statement released on Friday in Jos by the Public Relations Officer of the command, DSC Chris Longbit.
Longbit explained that the deployment was not to intimidate the public but to curb crime and criminality in the state during the festivities.
He said that men deployed would be stationed at flashpoints, adding that they would be expected to promptly respond to emergencies.
“The command has deployed 1,500 officers and men for the across the state to ensure maintenance of peace, law and order and a peaceful celebration.
“We wish to advise all citizens to be law abiding and avoid any act that will lead to breaking of law and order and tempering with the relative peace enjoyed,” Longbit said.
Longbit assured Plateau residents that the corps and other security agencies in the state had put in place all the necessary strategies to ensure a hitch free celebrations.
He said that the command enjoined all law-abiding citizens to go about their lawful businesses and and avoid crimes.
He, however, advised residents to report all suspicious movements by individuals or groups capable of causing chaos to the security agencies for prompt response.
