28-year-old Anayo Nworah has been allegedly been killed over general elections of Enugwu-Adi Town Union, in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Vincent Onyekwulu, the Publicist to the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Michael Okekeuche, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday said the community’s general elections slated this period of the year had been cancelled.
He asked the general public to remain calm.
Onyekwulu’s press release read: “An Enugwu-Agidi son, Anayo Nworah (28) was gruesomely beaten, battered and murdered by some members of adhoc committee appointed by present EBU caretaker committee.
“The abominable act has generated simmering crises, tension and threat to peace, law and order in Enugu Agidi.
“In view of the foregoing, and in exercise of the duties of his office, as the Chief security officer of the town, the traditional ruler of Enugwu-Agidi, HRH, Igwe Michael Okekeuche after due consultation with members of the royal cabinet and other relevant stakeholders in the town has decided that it will be inauspicious and insensitive to hold the EBU general election for national officers at this time.
“Hence, the proposed national election for the national executive by the current EBU is cancelled, to forestall further crises, Breach of peace, violence and possible fatalities as a consequence of this murder that could result from the visible and apparent insecurity that has over shadowed the town.
“Essentially, members of the general public are advised to remain law abiding, while his Royal Highness and other stakeholders shall continue to interface with the state government for further directive.”
