The Kano State Fire Service on Monday disclosed that more than N660m worth of property was destroyed by fire across the state in 2021.
This was made known by the Public Relations Officer of the state fire service, Saminu Abdullahi via a statement.
Abdullahi said in the year under review, the agency received both fire emergency and false alarm calls.
According to him, 831 fire calls were recorded from 27 fire stations across the state, adding that 818 rescue calls were responded to by officials of the agency.
Abdullahi maintained that from January to December 2021, 201 false alarms were recorded, pointing out that 98 persons died from the total number of 113 victims who fell inside ponds and rivers while swimming.
He noted that 37 persons were trapped inside wells, adding that 27 of the victims died.
Also, the spokesman said in different incidents, 182 lives were lost between January and December 2021.
The Director, Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Hassan Muhammmad, advised members of the public to handle fire with care to prevent disasters.
