Rivers court remands 2 for alleged conspiracy, forgery

One Chima Wonu and Favour Abraham have been remanded in the Ahoada Correctional facility by a Magistrate Court sitting in Isiokpo community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State on two counts of conspiracy and forgery.

The charges read out in court alleged that the two suspects conspired and forged a Deed of Conveyance, stamps with lawyers’ Seal purporting to be original documents.

The offence is punishable under the criminal code of laws of Rivers State.

The suspects, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate Lawrence Isikaku after listening to the bail application by the defense counsel and argument by the representative of the Nigerian Bar Association adjourned till the 13th of January, 2022 for bail consideration.

Speaking outside the courtroom, the Chairman of Isiokpo Branch of the NBA, Promise Ichegbo said they joined in the suit “to send a warning to some Surveyors who impersonate legal practitioners”.

“We told the court to look at the justice of this case and try in its consideration to protect the interest and justice of the case it actually represents which is that those who are not entitled to use a particular privilege will not be allowed to do so”.

Counsel to the accused declined comments on the matter.
