Super Eagles and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has been cleared of Covid-19 after the Nigerian was tested negative to the pandemic.
He is expected to return to Italy to make himself available to Luciano Spalletti in view of the next matches, starting evaluated perhaps already with the Coppa Italia match with Fiorentina.
“Victor is negative at Covid-19! Osimhen will return to Italy in the next few hours!” announces Napoli through a post published on Twitter.
It will be recalled that the former Lille of France, in addition to Covid-19, was struggling with the post-surgery prognosis on the face and he was ruled of the Nigeria squad heading to AFCON 2021 in Cameroon.
Meanwhile, countries suffering Covid outbreaks will have to play their Africa Cup of Nations matches even if they have only 11 players available.
New guidelines from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) state matches will still go ahead even if none of the 11 players is a goalkeeper.
Any nation unable to fulfil a fixture will forfeit the game 2-0.
The guidance has been issued after several nations reported Covid cases before the tournament starts yesterday.
CAF said that in “exceptional cases” the tournament’s organising committee “will take the appropriate decision”.
