As the gubernatorial election in Osun State approaches on July 16, the state’s governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has picked a nomination form to run in the race.
According to sources, close political friends led by Senate spokesman Ajibola Basiru purchased the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form for Governor Oyetola on Tuesday.
It would be recalled that Oyetola had on a visit to the Osun State Traditional Rulers Council monthly meeting declared interest to contest a second term as governor of the state.
Also, the purchase of the APC nomination form is coming just days after the APC National Reconciliation Committee led by Senator Abdullahi Adamu was in Osun on a national party assignment of reconciling the two factions of the party in the state.
The All Progressives Congress in Osun have in recent times been embroiled in a tussle that has split the party into two camps, the IleriOluwq faction which has the backing of Governor Oyetola and The Osun Progressives (TOP) which has the backing of Rauf Aregbesola, the Interior Minister and former governor of the state.
This crisis within the party has also seen the election of two, state chairmen of the party, Gboyega Famodun and Rasaq Salinsile.
The development within the party in Osun also resulted in a parallel ward, local government and state congresses.
