Political parties have been asked to provide full financial exemptions to women running for political office in 2023.
Judith Amaechi, the wife of the Minister of Transportation, made the call on Wednesday, citing finance as a major barrier to women’s political participation in Nigeria.
According to a statement issued by her media aide, Dike Bekwele, the former First Lady of Rivers, spoke at a two-day APC Progressives Women Conference in Abuja.
She urged political parties to assess women’s financial involvement as a matter of policy and give full financial waivers to encourage full women’s participation in elections.
Amaechi expressed concern that most women with intellectual and leadership capacities have stayed away from politics and political contests due to huge financial responsibility.
