The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has picked March 7 for the conduct of its primary for the Osun governorship election.
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by PDP national organising secretary, Umar Bature.
Recall that the national working committee (NWC) of the PDP had on January 10, named a five-member screening panel chaired by Mohammed Bello Adoke, former attorney-general of the federation, for the 2022 governorship primary in the state.
The panel had cleared all aspirants for the exercise.
According to Bature, a stakeholders’ meeting on the forthcoming election will hold on February 1 in Abuja, while ward congresses to elect delegates will take place two weeks after the meeting.
“The National Working Committee (NWC) of our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at its 544th meeting today, the 26th of January, 2022, after a careful consideration, approved the Osun State Screening Committee and Appeal Panel reports which cleared all the six (6) gubernatorial aspirants,” the statement reads.
“To this effect, all cleared aspirants are to note the following important activities: Osun State Stakeholders meeting with the NWC in Abuja – Tuesday, February 01, 2022; ward congresses to elect 3-Man Ad-Hoc Ward Delegates – Wednesday, February 16 – 17, 2022; LGA Congresses to elect (1) National Delegate per local government and Person Living With Disability (PLWD) – Saturday, February 26, 2022; party primary (to elect flagbearer) – Monday, March 07, 2022.”
The governorship election is scheduled to hold on July 16, 2022.
Among the governorship aspirants seeking to contest on the platform of the PDP are Ademola Adeleke, the party’s candidate in the 2018 election.
