Seven victims of human trafficking in Katsina State have been rescued by the Katsina State Police Command.
According to the Command, it invaded a criminal hideout at Yankara village, Koza District, Mai’adua LGA, Katsina State, where the victims were camping, after receiving an intelligence tip.
Superintendent Gambo Isah, the spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, confirmed this in a news statement.
He stated that the rescued victims, who included four girls and three males, were being held at a residence in the neighborhood.
The female victims include Success Oshoopkeme 20, of Asoko LGA, Edo State, Isaac Debora 20, of Ugunagbo LGA, Abia State, James Rebecca 20, of Minna LGA of Niger State and Zainab Tijjani 21, of Ibadan LGA of Oyo State.
The rescued male victims according to the statement are
Amoruwa Ade 28, of Irede LGA of Ondo State, Emmanuel Godwin 22, of Eka North LGA of Delta State and Taofik Olawale 27, of Ibadan LGA of Oyo State.
The victims while being interrogated confessed that “they were brought to the village by their agent who on sighting the police team, took to his heels, escaping with their GSM phones,” SP Gambo said.
The victims also confessed that “they were on their way to Libya en route Niger Republic border when they were tracked down by security agents.”
SP Gambo said, “the rescued victims will be handed over to NAPTIP office, Kano, for further investigation and arrest of the traffickers.”
