COVID-19: Nigeria records 89 fresh infections in 8 states and FCT

Nigeria has recorded 89 new cases of COVID-19 in eight states and the federal capital territory (FCT).

The COVID-19 result was announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in its daily update for Saturday, January 29, 2022.

According to the agency, Lagos recorded the most cases on Saturday with 26 new positive samples, followed by Ondo with 19 and Imo with 16.

Other states with fresh infections include Edo (7), Kaduna (7), Rivers (7), FCT (3), Ogun (3), Kano (1).

With 70 persons confirmed to have recovered from the infection on Saturday, a total of 228,702 people have now been discharged across the country

The NCDC said one person died of coronavirus complications on Saturday — the current fatality toll has now increased to 3,135.

The agency, however, noted that the death was recorded in Imo state on January 24.

Overall, Lagos accounts for the highest figure of coronavirus deaths in Nigeria with 769 deaths, followed by Edo and the FCT, with 320 and 247 deaths, respectively.

A total of 253,001 persons have now contracted COVID-19 across Nigeria, but the number of active cases currently stands at 21,183.
