One person has been confirmed dead and six others injured in an accident around the Katampe area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Seven persons were said to have been involved in the accident that occurred around the office of the Directorate of Road and Traffic Services also known as Vehicle Inspection Office on Wednesday.
Out of the six injured, two were said to be in critical conditions and are receiving treatment at the National Hospital, Abuja.
The driver, who was said to have been on top speed, reportedly suffered brake failure.
According to PUNCH, an eyewitness said, “The front tyre of the vehicle burst while the driver was at high speed. He tried to apply the brake but it failed. The car later rammed into drainage in the area. All occupants of the vehicle were seriously injured and are in critical condition.”
The spokesperson, Directorate of Road Traffic Services, Kalu Emetu, confirmed the accident.
Emetu said, “It was a lone crash but the vehicle was overloaded. Seven people were in the car; four at the back and three people including the driver sat in the front.
“One later died among the three that were admitted at Mataima General Hospital while among the four admitted at the National Hospital, two are in very good condition while the other two sustained serious injuries.”
