A Lagos High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square, (TBS), has slated May 6, 2022, for judgment in the trial of a Dane, Peter Nielsen, accused of killing his Nigerian wife and daughter.
Justice Bolanle Okikiolu-Ighile fixed the date after listening to the submissions and adopting the final written addresses of the prosecution and the defence.
Nielsen, 54, is standing trial on a two-count charge of murder. He is accused of killing his singer wife, Zainab, and their three-and-a-half-year-old daughter on April 5, 2018.
At the resumed hearing of the matter yesterday, defence counsel Mr Olasupo Shasore, SAN, in his final written address, asked the court to discharge and acquit Nielsen of the murder charge.
He said the defence was concerned about whether Nielsen received a fair trial in accordance with Section 36 (6), B and D of the 1999 Constitution.
He prayed the court to allow Nielsen to go home on the basis that a relevant exhibit tendered before the court was missing and in its absence, justice could not be served.
In his response, Lagos State Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Mr. Adebayo Haroun said, “We have replied to all the issues raised by the defence”…and “the prosecution has been able to prove its case without reasonable doubt that Peter Nielsen murdered Zainab Nielsen and Petra Nielsen, on April 5, 2018.”
