Chelsea’s potential new owner confirms bid to take over from Abramovich

Muhsin Bayrak, a Turkish billionaire businessman, has declared his bid to acquire Chelsea Football Club from Roman Abramovich.

On Wednesday night, Abramovich announced his decision to sell Chelsea.

This comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin authorized the invasion of Ukraine by Russian armed forces. Abramovich is also claimed to have had strong relations with Putin.

In his 19 years as owner of Chelsea, Abramovich has overseen the appointment of 15 managers and the winning of 21 titles.

The Blues owner wants to sell at between £3-4 billion, vowing to donate all net proceeds from the impending sale to victims of the conflict in Ukraine.

And now, Bayrak, the billionaire owner of construction company AB Grup Holding, confirmed he is ‘confident’ of completing a takeover after lodging a bid

“Yes, we definitely confirm. We have forwarded our offer regarding this to them,” a spokesperson of the Turk told The Guardian.

Bayrak had earlier told Turkish media: “We are discussing the terms of Chelsea’s purchase with Roman Abramovich’s lawyers.

“We’re negotiating signatures. We will soon fly the Turkish flag in London.”
