Governor of Borno state, Babagana Zulum has disclosed that 500 displaced households from Malam-Fatori, Abadam LGA of the state will be resettled before Ramadan.
The pledge was made by the governor during a visit to the area on Sunday.
Malam-Fatori, a town on the fringes of Lake Chad, had been abandoned by most of its residents since the early stages of the Boko Haram insurgency in 2014.
Zulum during the visit inspected 1,000 temporary shelters which the households will occupy before permanent houses are fully reconstructed.
“Five hundred households will, Insha Allah, arrive before Ramadan fast. This is the right time to resettle them back to their ancestral homes in a safe and dignified manner before the rainy season,” the governor said.
Zulum directed that five blocks of classrooms at a central primary school be built by the state’s ministry of reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement within the next 10 days.
He also ordered the rehabilitation of a healthcare centre and a Friday mosque around the old cattle market in the town.
He added that each returnee would be supported with N100,000 as part of a participatory rebuilding approach.
