After being sanctioned by the UK government following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, has been disqualified by the Premier League as a director of the club.
The Premier League announced his disqualification via a statement on Saturday, confirming that Chelsea will still be allowed to play their fixtures despite the announcement.
“Following the imposition of sanctions by the UK Government, the Premier League Board has disqualified Roman Abramovich as a Director of Chelsea Football Club.
“The Board’s decision does not impact on the club’s ability to train and play its fixtures, as set out under the terms of a licence issued by the Government which expires on 31 May 2022,” a statement read.
The Blues welcome Newcastle United to Stamford Bridge in their next league game.
