Commissioner of Police in Enugu, Lawal Abubakar, has ordered an investigation into allegations that an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Oluseyi Okenla, assaulted a colleague, Sgt. Helen Onoja.
Daniel Ndukwe, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, said this in a statement released in Enugu on Saturday.
“The Commissioner has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough and conclusive investigation into the story making the rounds on social media and blogs of this physical assault.
According to the police spokesperson, the commissioner assured the public that no stone will be left unturned in determining the cause of the incident and imposing necessary sanctions.
Mr Ndukwe said the commissioner urged the public to refrain from fabricating or peddling false narratives about the alleged incident.
“The investigation will help establish the facts surrounding the allegations and apportioning appropriate disciplinary sanctions on whoever is found culpable,” Mr Ndukwe said.
“The command is urging all and sundry to count on the command to activate the investigative and internal disciplinary mechanisms of the Nigeria Police to ensure that justice prevails,” he said.
