The Blues last faced Los Blancos in last year’s competition and came away 3-1 victors over two legs in the semi-final.
The draw in Nyon saw a number of tricky ties on the cards for Thomas Tuchel and co with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid all in the pot. Speaking following his side’s victory over Lille, the Blues boss wasn’t too worried about the other teams however.
“I want us to be the team nobody wants to play,” said the German coach, “This is the role we see ourselves in this round of eight. It’s a big step to do it again, again, and again. We fight for the top four places in the toughest league maybe in the world right now and we fight in the last eight again [in the Champions League]. So this brings out the best in us and we want to be the team nobody wants to play against. So let’s see what happens.”
The Blues could see two repeat fixtures from last year’s competition with the potential to play Manchester City in the semi-final, having overcome them in last year’s final in Porto. If Chelsea are successful in making it to the final they will see themselves in the away dressing room however.
