Buhari breaks silence on deadly attack in Imo, Ohanaeze leader

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday strongly condemned as “deeply distressing” the destruction of police facilities and assets in Imo State, as well as Professor George Obiozor’s residence, who is the President General of the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo and a major voice of moderation in the country’s affairs.

Garba Shehu, the President’s spokesperson, made a statement strongly condemning the violence in the sub-region and urging everyone to keep the peace.

Buhari also stated that the Southeast’s law and order skills were being reinforced.

He said while this was being done, the people of Imo State in particular and the sub-region, in general, should maintain peace as the police and other agencies were working to ensure that normalcy was restored at the earliest.

The President extended sympathies to the police authorities over the losses of men and materials, and to Professor Obiozor who he urged to maintain his commitment to the peace and oneness of the Federation against these senseless terrorists.
