Two arrested over attempt to kill Uber driver

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspects while trying to kill an Uber driver around Fela shrine, Agidingbi area of Ikeja.

The state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, who disclosed this said the suspects – chael Tobiloba, 23, and Ismaila Yusuf, 18, are members of a syndicate who specialize in attacking Uber drivers in the state.

CP Alabi said the suspects boarded the cab as passengers from Ojota, but that during the trip to Fela’s shrine, the duo tried to kill the driver in a carjacking. Luck however ran against the suspects when the victim raised an alarm that attracted some policemen in the area.

He said the suspects booked an Uber under the pretext that they were going to Fela’s shrine.

The police boss said while being driven from Ojota to Fela’s shrine in Alausa, Ikeja, the men brought out a gun and robbed the Uber driver of the sum of N80,000, a Tecno Spark 8 mobile phone and other personal belongings. He said consequently, the driver raised an alarm which attracted a police patrol team on routine patrol around the area.

“The policemen reacted swiftly and chased the suspects leading to the arrest of two of the robbers while others escaped. One English made revolver pistol was recovered from the arrested suspects.

The suspects were identified as Michael Tobiloba ‘m’ aged 23 and Ismaila Yusuf ‘m’ aged 18. Both suspects also confessed to be members of the Buccaneer confraternity,” the police boss said.
