Carlos Queiroz leaves Egypt head coach position after 2022 World Cup elimination

Carlos Queiroz resigned as Egypt’s national team coach after the country failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

The Pharaohs were defeated 3-1 on penalties by Senegal in the second leg of their playoff on Tuesday.

The match concluded 1-0 after 120 minutes and 1-1 on aggregate, barely over three weeks after the North Africans were beaten on penalties by Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations final in Cameroon.

It would have been Egypt’s fourth World Cup appearance.

Queiroz’s tenure as team manager has come to an end due to the squad’s failure to qualify.

He tweeted: “Dream is Over. From the bottom of my heart, my gratitude to the Egypt Federation for this honor of coaching the National Team.

“To all my players and my staff, my recognition and humble thank you so much. You will be always in my heart.

“It was my privilege to work and be helped by such dedicated and capable professionals and wonderful friends.”

Queiroz was appointed national team boss in September and oversaw a mixed campaign at the 2021 AFCON.
