Customs officers in Katsina State detained a suspected police officer for smuggling activities.
The alleged police officer identified as Sirajo Jelani Abdulkadiri was arrested along Katsina-Kano road while riding in a used Toyota Sienna wagon with the inscription “Federal Joint Compliance Monitoring & Enforcement Against Multiple Taxes and Levies along Nigerian Highway Kaduna State Command.”
Dalha Wada Chedi, the state’s Customs Comptroller, said this on Wednesday when addressing the press on the command’s accomplishments for the months of February and March 2022.
Other products discovered in the vehicle with the license plate “LSD 315 FD” include 25 bags of 50kg foreign rice, each weighing 50kg, one carton of foreign spaghetti, and one carton of foreign macaroni.
Also, four different means of Identification including a Police ID Card, a Citizen for Peace & First Aid Mission of Nigeria ID card, a Nigeria Association of Agric Produce Dealers (NAAPD) ID card, and that of IMAN Federal Representative of Nigeria Taskforce, Kaduna State were found on the suspect who claims to be a police officer.
Also found on the suspect are a Nigeria Police ballistic jacket, a handcuff, an Assistant Superintendent of Police rank badge, and a can suspected to be tear gas.
According to Chedi the suspect and the exhibit found on him excluding the food items and the vehicle have been transferred to the Katsina State Police Command for further investigation.
Speaking on the achievement of the command for the month of February and March 2022, Chedi said customs operatives in the state succeeded in seizing items comprising vehicles, food items, second-hand clothing worth over N42.7 million.
