After issuing letters of promotion to some Ibadan chiefs, The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun has made a U-turn.
The promotion letters has been withdrawn by Oba Lekan Balogun.
Within Nigeria recalls that three letters of promotion were issued to three individuals who were due for promotion in both Balogun and Olubadan lines.
It was gathered that a letter of promotion from Mogaji to Jagun Olubadan was issued to one of the Mogajis, while two letters of promotion from Mogaji to Jagun Balogun were issued to two Mogajis.
Newsmen gathered that the position of Mogaji is synonymous with the position of family head.
Based on Ibadan traditional arrangement, anyone who wishes to become Olubadan starts from the position of Mogaji of his family compound.
The Mogaji will then be promoted from Mogaji to either Jagun Balogun or Jagun Olubadan. Such person will then move from one ladder to the other and subsequently become Olubadan.
According to reports, the position of Jagun Balogun is to be occupied by one individual, but people of the ancient city were surprised when they discovered that two letters of promotion from Mogaji to Jagun Balogun have been issued to two individuals.
The development is currently causing contusion in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The Olubadan has, however, withdrawn the three letters.
The monarch said that the controversial letters were issued due to administrative error.
The Olubadan palace, in a statement obtained by DAILY POST on Wednesday, stated that the monarch admitted to the administrative error.
The monarch said, “Following the controversies trailing the appointment of Jagun in the two ruling lines of Olubadan chieftaincy title, (Olubadan and Balogun), the three letters to have purportedly emanated from the Palace have been cancelled.
“Three letters, two for Jagun Balogun and one for Jagun Olubadan were flying in the social media on Tuesday. Yet, there currently exists only two vacancies in the two lines, one apiece.
“Oba Balogun, however, assured the prospective Jaguns to see the development as a temporary measure and not the end of the road,” stressing that the vacancies are still there and would be filled in due course.
He enjoined them to remain calm while the errors are corrected with a promise that the cancellation would not amount to denial.
