Police kill one, repel attack by gunmen in Ebonyi

Operatives of the Ebonyi State Police Command have repelled an attack by gunmen in the Ịkwo Local Government Area of the state.

The gunmen were said to have attacked the policemen attached to a construction company working on Friday, but the policemen engaged them in a shootout.

According to PUNCH, a source said the incident happened in Omege Noyo area of the Ikwo council.

The source said one of the gunmen was killed during the shootout while a police officer was injured and in critical condition at a hospital.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Loveth Odah, confirmed the incident but noted she was yet to get full details of what happened.

She reiterated that the police were, however, on the trail of the attackers and expressed hope that they will soon be apprehended.

The attack happened the same day that unknown gunmen attacked and killed a member of the Ebubeagu security outfit in the state.

WITHIN NIGERIA had reported that gunmen killed an operative of the Ebubeagu Southeast Security outfit identified as Iboko Christian in Ebonyi State.
