The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board says it has removed one centre from list of those that will be used for the 2022 UTME examination for system failure.
The board said the affected centre has been ordered to refund candidates’ money, noting that 175,000 candidates sat for the mock examination.
JAMB registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, who announced the development on Saturday, said the delisted centre, is located in the Oko Oba area of Lagos.
Oloyede, who expressed delight at the level of performance during inspection in Lagos and Ogun, assured stakeholders that the board was ready for the conduct of this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
“I have done sample inspections in Lagos and Ogun. The turn-out was impressive and we are satisfied with the level of performance
“In the process, a centre, Brain Point CBT centre in Oko-Oba, Lagos State which could not sustain their generator set is automatically delisted.
“I have given an instruction that the candidates in this should be refunded their full money,” he said.
The registrar identified the centre as Brain Point Computer Based Centre (CBT) at Oko-Oba in Lagos for allegedly violating the requirement for the conduct of an effective examination.
Oloyede, who said that the CBT centres were allowed to collect up to N1,000 from candidates instead of the earlier N700, added that they needed to go all out and give their best in the conduct of the examination.
He charged some tertiary institutions on improvement and maintenance of their facilities, noting that some of their facilities were below par, hence needed upgrading.
He said he’s satisfied with the conduct of the examinations in all the states of the federation, saying he had got a pleasing reports from officials on the field across the country of a smooth and seamless conduct of the examination.
Oloyede also said that the 175,000 candidates who wrote the mock examination were limited to allow for only one session which started between 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
