DEPICT: Arrested Nigerian policeman being interrogated by journalist

Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) have arrested a 54-year-old dismissed policeman, Julius Ehizen, and a member of his gang, for extorting money from commercial bus drivers.

The chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, Shola Jejeloye, said the policeman was dismissed from the police in 2006.

Jejeloye said the task force had been on the trail of the duo for a while due to the numerous reports it received from members of the public.

The State police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspect and his accomplice went about arresting unsuspecting motorists and extorting them of their hard earned money.

“But on Friday, nemesis caught up with them in the evening at Anthony Village while they tried to arrest and tow a vehicle. They apprehended the motorist to extort money from him but the motorist quickly called officers from the Lagos State Task Force who came and confirmed that they were impostors.”
