The Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed a bill for the creation of 22 additional districts in the state.
The bill was passed after Majority Leader and member of the Jada Mbulo Constituency, Hammantukur Yettisuri, presented it for a third reading on the Assembly floor during Wednesday’s sitting.
The motion for the third reading was put to a voice vote by Speaker of the Assembly, Aminu Iya Abbas, and was unanimously supported by the lawmakers.
As a result, the speaker requested that a clean copy of the Bill be made and given for assent to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
The new districts created by the bill include Nassarawo Abba and Karewa in Yola North local government area, Lamorde, Nasarawo and Yadafa in Mubi South LGA, Mildu (Mildu Shalmi) in Madagali LGA, Garum (Tapare), Serkum (Gurum-Nongvan) in Ganye LGA, Gangzamanu, Mayo Duken and Kogin Baba in Toungo LGA.
Others are Vomni, Kilbawo and Mbangan Tire in Jada LGA, Numan and Wayam in Numan LGA, Kawon Dowaya, Mbula Penda (Kulasala) Dili, Bilachi and Sabon Pegi in Demsa LGA and Zakawon (Boshikiri) in Guyuk LGA..
The creation of additional districts followed the consideration and adoption as amended in the report of the Ad Hoc Committee for the Creation of New Districts during Tuesday’s plenary session.
The Assembly had, during its sitting on Tuesday, adopted the committee’s report of the ad-hoc committee.
Earlier this year, the district creation committee received 97 memoranda from various towns requesting the creation of new districts.
From the 97 applications received from diverse localities, 22 new districts were chosen.
