Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara has announced his resignation.
He resigned along with Prime Minister Patrick Achi and his government.
Ouattara announced his resignation on Wednesday during a cabinet meeting in Abidjan.
“I have decided to reduce the number of government ministers in order to strengthen government effectiveness and bearing in mind the current world economic situation,” Ouattara said. “It is crucial to reduce state spending and steer it towards social and security resilience.”
It is not immediately clear why Ouattara-led administration is stepping away from the governance of the West African nation. Ouattara announced that a new Prime Minister would be named next week who would then present around 30 new ministers.
