Drivers using Google map to undergo mental test – FRSC

4,000 arrested for over speeding in Ogun- FRSC

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said motorists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that are caught using Google Maps while driving will be subjected to psychiatric evaluation.

Speaking during the corps Easter Special Package Sensitisation Campaign on Sunday in Abuja, Aliyu Ahmad, the Root Commander (RC), Lugbe, Unit Command, said the Google map should be set before hitting the road.

At event which was held at Province 15 of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Lugbe, FHA, Ahmad warned against messaging, typing and listening to music with the phone while driving.

Ahmad said that the use of Google Maps was an offence on the road which attracted penalties, including mental test.

Surprised by the agency’s opposition to the app, members of the congregation asked why FRSC would frown at the use of Google Maps.

Ahmad while explaining, said it could only be used before the vehicle was in motion.

He said that the use of the phone while driving is still a condemnable offence.

“We used to have challenges for some who park and claim they want to call.

“They must park off the shoulder, and not by the side of the road.

“This is a festive period and there is massive movement of vehicles, so let’s try to avoid distractions on the road,” Mr Ahmad said.
