One confirmed dead in Lagos tanker explosion

One person has just been confirmed dead in the early Friday tanker explosion that occurred in the Ajegunle area of old Sango Toll Gate between Lagos and Ogun State.

The director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye confirmed the recovery of the body in a statement signed by him.

A tanker, fully loaded with Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol has early Friday morning exploded, destroying many houses, shops and vehicles in the community.

The Lagos fire agency also said that the fire had been successfully combated by firemen from Agege, Ikeja and Alausa.

Mrs Adeseye said “They were emergency which was reported at 02:16 midnight hours of Friday resulted from a Tanker meant to service Ayinde Oil Filling Station at Ajegunle which accidentally spilled its 45,000 liters PMS contents while negotiating a bend to the Station before resulting to Fire from the nefarious activities of scoopers at the Toll Gate end. Causing it spread through some roadside makeshift shops to its source at Ajegunle Bus Stop. ”

The situation is however being brought under control by the Agege, Ikeja and Alausa Fire Crews of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service with the use of tactical Firefighting application of Chemical Foam Compound to suppress the Fire. ”
