The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has underscored the importance of having the Electoral Offences Commission Bill passed by the national assembly.
The Chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, reiterated the need for passage of the bill to curb electoral offences when he spoke at a roundtable organised by the Electoral Hub in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said the establishment of the commission would make the prosecution of electoral offenders smooth and easy.
He urged Nigerians to mount pressure on the National Assembly to pass the Electoral Offences Commission Bill to curb electoral offences in the country.
On his part, a former Chairman of INEC, Attahiru Jega, said political parties, candidates, election officials and security operatives are culprits in electoral offences, thus, canvassed for the establishment of the commission.
