Man sent to prison for raping 12-year-old stepdaughter in Lagos

29-year-old Ugochukwu Okafor, has been remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiled his 12-year-old stepdaughter in Oworonshoki area in Lagos State.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Donjour Perezi, told the Ogudu Magistrates’ Court on Thursday that Okafor committed the offence sometime in 2021, in his residence at Oworonshoki.

The police said that the matter was reported at the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Agency, Alausa.

Perezi said that Okafor sexually abused his stepdaughter twice and her mother, who is aware and even caught her husband red-handed once, refused to take any legal action

The police charged Okafor with one count of defilement.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola, declined to take Okafor’s plea, ordering the police to send the case file to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

She then adjourned the case until May 12 for DPP advice.

According to the provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2005, defilement attracts life imprisonment.
