UN chief, Guterres in Nigeria, visits Boko Haram victims in Borno

Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday.

Guterres traveled to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno, where he spoke with Boko Haram victims and internally displaced people (IDPs).

The head consoled them and said that the UN will continue to prioritize their well-being.

Governor Babagana Zulum briefed Guterres on the humanitarian catastrophe and praised the UN for its years of work.

According to Zulum, the IDPs had been in camps for several years and were ready to return to their houses, which had yet to be rebuilt.

The governor appealed for more UN support in the ongoing rehabilitation, reconstruction and resettlement of the IDPs.

NAN reports that Guterres could not make his scheduled visit to the border town of Banki due to time factor.
