On Monday evening, scores of convicts reportedly escaped from the Correctional Centre in Agbor, Ika South Local Council of Delta State, after the prison wall collapsed.
According to sources, the wall fell after the wind ripped off part of the roof owing to heavy rain on Monday about 4:30 p.m.
According to them, the flood accumulated at the foot of the wall for hours after the storm, causing the wall to collapse abruptly.
It was also learned that no deaths were reported, but that several inmates fled during the process.
Following the incident, security officers, including the army, police, and others, were called to the location to prevent others from fleeing.
Contacted, the Delta State Controller of Correctional Centre, Mr. Ovie Friday Esezobor, who confirmed the incident, said there was no death or escape of prisoners.
He said: “At the moment, my men are here with me, soldiers and police personnel are also here,” to manage the situation.
