Following rumors in some quarters that Senator Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau was about to join the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Kano State Governor Umar Abdullahi Ganduje invaded the former governor’s residence on Friday to prevent his defection.
Shekarau is alleged to have stormed Kano with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the NNPP presidential candidate, on Friday, in what looks to be a fresh alliance to depose the incumbent All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2023.
Governor Ganduje, who is reportedly aware of the potential ramifications of Kwankwaso and Shekarau joining forces, is said to be trying hard to prevent his predecessor from joining the NNPP.
Sule Ya’u Sule, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau’s spokesperson, in a chat with newsmen, said, “Yes, Governor Ganduje was this evening at Mallam (Shekarau)’s house, but I cannot tell you what actually transpired there.”
Reports had it that the moment Ganduje entered Shekarau’s house, there were thunderous echoes of the senator’s supporters shouting, “We must not be stopped from going out of the APC by whatever reason.”
