Deborah Samuel, a 200-level student at Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto State, was burned to death on Thursday, according to the British government.
According to reports, the girl was beaten to a pulp and burned alive by male Muslim classmates who accused her of disrespecting Prophet Muhammed on WhatsApp.
As people of the region became tense, the school administration decided to halt academic activity indefinitely.
Nigerians have reacted in a variety of ways, with many condemning the behavior.
Catriona Laing, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, responded on Twitter by urging President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to apprehend and prosecute the culprits.
“I condemn the murder of Deborah Samuel in Sokoto, and urge the police and relevant authorities to ensure the perpetrators of this horrific act are made to face justice in line with the law,” Laing wrote.
