On Sunday, the Nigeria Football Federation announced Jose Peseiro as the next national team coach.
Peseiro, though, has only been given a one-year deal to lead the Super Eagles, according to OwnGoalNigeria.
The 12-month contract can be renewed based on performance terms.
Because of their legal struggle over compensation with former Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr, the NFF is said to have offered Peseiro a short-term contract.
FIFA has previously ordered the federation to compensate Rohr with $380,000 for breach of contract.
The friendlies against Ecuador and Mexico in the United States will be Peseiro’s first matches in command.
The games will be followed by the qualifiers for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
