Former President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, says the All Progressives Congress has reversed the growth made in the country by previous administrations.
He said the party failed to build on the progress recorded by previous government in the country since seven years ago when the President Muhammadu Buhari took over the control of the country.
Saraki spoke while addressing delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party during his visit to Ibadan on Tuesday.
He added thay Nigeria was a weak state when Buhari took over but the country had degenerated to a failing state presently.
Saraki, who is one of the presidential aspirants on the platform of the PDP said to reverse the rot in the system, Nigeria needed a competent and a highly detribalised President in 2023, while describing himself as the right candidate for the job.
He said, “Before Buhari and the APC government came to power, we were a weak nation, but now, we are a failing nation. There is a difference between a weak nation and a failing nation. But we need someone who can rescue us from becoming a failed state.
“We must elect someone who has the capacity. We need a man with experience. We need someone who can unite Nigerians and I am that person. We need someone who can unite the old and the young together. Let us vote for the person that can unite the country.
“I am assuring you that I am the one, I have the capacity to do it. This country needs someone with energy to move the country forward.”
Saraki also visited Governor Seyi Makinde, who said the PDP would get it right to pick a candidate who would win the presidency and rescue Nigeria from further destruction.
He added that the country has had a lot of issues under the APC government and that it was time Nigerians rejected the party, saying there is need for decency in government.
Makinde said, ” Some believe that in PDP, the least of our aspirants is better than the best APC wants to offer. In the next 10 days, we have to take a very serious decision for our party and the country as well. I don’t have any doubt that we will get it right this time around.
“They say 24 hours is a long time in politics. So, we have to keep striving, pulling everybody together such that we are able to narrow the field and go to the presidential convention as a united family.”
