Former National Security Adviser Col Sambo Dasuki, former Sokoto State Governor Attahiru Bafarawa, and former Minister of State for Finance Bashir Yuguda were re-arrested on Monday by the Federal Government on corruption charges.
They were re-arraigned in a Federal Capital Territory FCT High Court on allegations of breach of trust and criminal misappropriation of N388 billion in public funds.
Dasuki, Bafarawa, and Yuguda were accused of diverting various sums in various currencies to various bank accounts under the false pretense of using the funds to purchase security equipment, according to the 16-count criminal charges.
The funds, according to the charges prepared by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, were used to fund the People’s Democratic Party’s presidential campaign during the 2015 general elections.
All of the defendants pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.
Following a passionate plea by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN, Prince Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, Justice Halilu Yusuf adopted the earlier bail conditions granted them in 2018 when they were first arraigned.
The Judge fixed the trial for June 7, 2022.
