The Nigerian Army has denied claims of Cameroonian (Ambazonian) separatists attacking villages in Nigeria.
Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, issued a statement on Monday.
According to Nwachukwu, Nigerian military at Danare received intelligence and mobilized to the purportedly invaded Bashu town.
The spokesman stated that when they arrived, they realized that there had been no incursion at Bashu.
“Rather, the separatists attacked Obonyi 2 and Njasha, both of which are communities located in the Republic of Cameroon”, he added.
Four victims, who crossed to Nigerian territory, were later rescued by soldiers and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officials.
Nwachukwu assured of military protection and advised members of the public to stay calm.
