Luca Toni, a former Bayern Munich striker, has greeted Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku with open arms upon his return to Inter Milan.
Lukaku’s wish to return to Italy, according to Toni, could be realized this summer.
In a tumultuous interview with Sky Italia in December of last year, Lukaku expressed his desire to return to Inter Milan.
Inter Milan won the 2020/2021 Scudetto under Antonio Conte, with the Belgian international scoring 24 goals in the Italian top flight.
However, the 29-year-old has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge, scoring only eight Premier League goals in his first season.
Toni, a former Italy international, praised Lukaku while speaking to Tuttomercatoweb at the Charity Night Gala in Rome.
Toni said: “A possible return of Lukaku to Inter? He’s had a bit of a hard time this year at Chelsea, but he’s a great champion.
“It will depend on Inzaghi, if Lukaku wants Inter, I think he is welcome.”
