Sales manager allegedly steals employer’s $2,000 before eloping with her boyfriend

A 22-year-old sales manager, Chijindu Eucharia Nweze, has been arrested by the police for allegedly stealing the sum of $2,000 from her employer in Lagos State.

According to the police, Chijindu’s employer, Mrs Veno Ommamuli, reported the incident to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Maroko Division, Lekki, CSP Raji Ganiyu who swiftly swung into action and directed his crack team led by Inspector Monday Otolor to do whatever they could to locate the fleeing suspect and arrest her.

The police team tracked the suspect to a hideout in Lekki, Lagos, where she had allegedly eloped with a man friend, and arrested her.

The suspect was arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge bordering on stealing.

Police Counsel, Reuben Solomon told the Court in the charge marked P/11/2022 that the defendant committed the offence on 27 May 2022 at Road 14, Admiralty Road, Lekki Phase I, Lagos.

Solomon informed the court that the complainant sent the defendant to the bank to deposit the said money, but the defendant allegedly absconded with it and switched off her phone. She was later arrested at a hideout in Lagos.

He said the offences the defendant committed were punishable under sessions 411 and 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Nweze, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and the Magistrate, Mr O.A Abioye granted her bail of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Abioye adjourned the case till 14 June 2022 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi correctional facility till she perfected the bail conditions.
