The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested eighty accused internet scammers.

On Saturday, Ibadan Zonal Command personnel confirmed the development.

The accused were apprehended during a sting operation in both Ibadan, Oyo State, and Ondo State.

According to the anti-graft agency, 41 people were apprehended in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, and 39 were apprehended in Oyo State.

Following useful intelligence on their cyber-fraudulent operations, the suspects, who claimed to be undergraduates at several tertiary institutions in Ibadan, were apprehended in the Apete area of the Oyo State capital.

However, following analyses carried out on their devices, incriminating documents, and messages of their fraudulent bank transactions were recovered from thirty-four of the suspects.

Five exotic cars, mobile phones, and laptops are among the items recovered from them.

The Commission added that they will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
