New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was “counting” on the club bringing in Benfica’s Darwin Nunez, according to the UK Metro.
However, due to United’s “dithering,” the 22-year-old has agreed to join Liverpool in a £64 million deal.
Nunez is scheduled to have a medical within the next 24 hours before signing a contract worth up to £80 million.
Last season, the Uruguayan striker scored 36 goals, including twice against Liverpool in the Champions League.
Nunez was a top priority for United, and Ten Hag believed he could provide excellent competition for Cristiano Ronaldo next season before becoming the club’s long-term first-choice striker.
But Ten Hag has been left angry as the Red Devils were caught cold by their Premier League rivals.
The Dutchman, who is yet to bring in any new player, now has to shift his attention to other targets.
