President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday ruled out a third term in office.
The Nigerian president made the remarks during a bilateral meeting with Boris Johnson, the British prime minister.
The discussion took place on the sidelines of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Kigali, Rwanda.
Buhari reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the Nigerian Constitution’s maximum term limit.
The PM had inquired whether Nigeria’s president would run for office again.
“Another term for me? No! The first person who tried it didn’t end very well”, he said.
On insecurity, Buhari said after the Muammar Gadaffi regime, armed guards in countries in the Sahel have been causing havoc.
“The only thing they know how to do is to shoot guns”, he lamented.
