President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to swear in Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) today following the resignation of Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad over health challenges.
WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that Justice Tanko resigned on Sunday night, citing ill-health as the reason for his decision.
Justice Ariwoola is currently the most senior Justice of the Supreme Court.
According to sources within the presidency, barring any last-minute change of plans, Ariwoola will be sworn in today by 2 pm.
Ariwoola, born on 22 August 1958 was formerly a Justice of the Court of Appeal before he was elevated to the Supreme Court bench.
